In addition to the various dishes, drinks, and especially wine, play the biggest role in this film. During Miles and Jack’s tour of the vineyards, they taste many types of wines. From champagne to rosé and from sauvignon blanc to merlot, it all passes by!
Sideways (Alexander Payne, 2004) is about two friends, Miles and Jack. Even though the film is about two friends, the story is told from Miles’ perspective. Miles is an English teacher and has been trying to start a career as a writer for years. He is depressed because his marriage ended in divorce. Jack, on the other hand, is about to get married but wants to score with other women before then. The two men, who are clearly going through a midlife crisis, are taking a road trip through California’s vineyards, sampling all kinds of different wines.
The film is English spoken and Dutch subtitled.
