Chef Anja Sluijs

Cuban/American cuisine (vegan menu possible)

Good film

Chef (Favreau, 2014) is a culinary comedy about top chef Carl Casper, who lives for his work. When he is harshly criticized by a restaurant critic, he vents his frustration on Twitter. However not known to him, everyone can read his response, leading to a media uproar. His ex-wife suggests he buys a food truck and returns to the basics: honest and delicious food that makes people happy. Traveling through the southern states of America with his son and an old colleague, he rediscovers his joy in cooking. The film is in English spoken with Dutch subtitles.

Good food

This film is ‘all about food!’ We will serve you a mix of Cuban and American dishes this evening: varied and ‘delicioso’. Count on delicious comfort food, just like in the film made with love. And you can taste that! Chef Roy Choi from Los Angeles, the culinary coach of this film, created all the dishes in the film to perfection. Thanks to our own chef Anja, you can enjoy this during the film.

Great timing

What you see, is what you eat. You’re eating whatever is being eaten in the movie at the exact same time. Cinema Culinair’s culinary script guides the chef and service. Good movie + good food + great timing. The point is in the latter. An example. When Chef Carl Casper eats his home-made Cubano in the film at 1 hour, 14 minutes and 53 seconds, we want our guests to be able to taste this dish at the same time. A minute earlier or later determines the difference between good and fan-tas-tic! Ultimately, what matters is that you not only see or hear that film, but also taste and feel it.

How does it work?

1

Be welcomed by our host

Come on time and get a taste of the atmosphere. No cinema, no restaurant, but an urban or classic ballroom with high ceilings, movie screens and long tables. But first: buy a bottle of wine to accompany the film. Or something else delicious.

2

Order your own drink at the bar and enjoy!

At the table, you’ll be told how it works. Seven carefully prepared dishes are served, perfectly timed with the film. There is a break halfway the movie. As soon as the movie starts, the first dishes appear in front of you, quickly and efficiently. Then it’s time to countdown…. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and taste. Together all at once.

3

Take a bite at the same time with the main actor for real sensation

You eat exactly the same as the actors in the movie. Right down to the second. So you experience the film with all your senses: see, hear, smell, taste and feel. It couldn’t be more intense. see, hear, smell, taste and feel. As if you were sitting at the table with the actors.

Experience this show.

Some movies you don’t just want to see, you want to taste! This is one of those movies. When you see the protagonists enjoying all the goodies in the film, you want to taste along. And so you can, with Cinema Culinary. Sometimes a dish is portrayed fairly briefly, but very often you see the preparation, the mouthful and the aftertaste. That really is the ultimate. We want you to experience this film like never before. So: smell, taste and feel what you see on the screen. As if you were there, on the film set. It couldn’t be more intense.

Very nice and tasty experience

Very fun and delicious experience. At the same time with the main character himself live tasting what is eaten in the movie, who wouldn't want that? With your date, with friends, as a family outing - this is a top experience! Be quick though because tickets always sell out quickly.

Eat what you see is brilliant...

Rutger and his team have developed this concept into a beautiful experience! The romantic idea is correct. Long tables, good atmosphere, good conversations and good food. It's amazing how good quality food it is to serve so many people at the same time. And let's face it, eat what you see is brilliant...

Arjen de Bruin

I'm a big fan!

Perfect Combination of Film, Drinks and Conviviality!

The boozy brunch at Sideways was a huge success! The atmospheric location, perfect timing of the drinks and delicious snacks made it extra fun. Super fun, with those drinks included! Fitted perfectly with this film, of course; we were given lots of goodies to taste and we had a great time!

We will definitely come back again!

Had a great night out at Cinema Culinair! A very fun and original concept that was executed very well. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cosy and the film ‘The Menu’ fitted in perfectly. We will definitely come back again!

Myra, 2024

Perfect concept for a night out.

Perfect concept for an evening out. The food is also excellent for vegetarians. Partly because of the friendly service, the small scale and beautiful location (Tolhuis Amsterdam), there is a pleasant atmosphere.

Cinema Culinary Makes Movie Dinners Exciting

So here follows a successive undercooked and a real lava cake recipe. We at Cinema […]

Step by step Cubano

For a ham and cheese sandwich, the Cubano is creating more of a furor than you might expect. In the 19th century, Cubans could easily travel to Florida, and they brought their favorite sandwich with them. Tradition has it that the sandwich only became what it is today in Miami/Key West. There is a regional […]

Le Pot-au-feu - Film & diner

Le pot au feu

Movie with dinner

With Le pot-au-feu (2023, Trần Anh Hùn, the film is also known by its title The taste of things), it is simply impossible not to feel like eating. Every scene exudes the love and craftsmanship for French classic cuisine, and the film is romance and cooking course in one. We are in Dodin's imposing mansion where he and his cook Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) prepare the most delicious dishes for friends. In the traditional kitchen without electricity and gas, turbot, vol-au-vent, pigeons and veal backs are silently prepared, all filmed like living paintings that make you long for a sweltering French summer in the country.

Movie with dinner

Tough chef (Bradley Cooper) arrives in London after years of penance to win a third star. However, that is not easy. A star cast full of sympathetic opponents (Daniel Brühl, Omar Sy, Matthew Rhys) and the dishes are fan-tas-tic.
