The film features delicious dishes from classic French cuisine. In Julie Julia, 20 dishes are featured and we choose a few of them, neatly spread throughout the film. Of course, based on Julia Child’s own recipes from the book ‘The Art of Cooking’.
Julie Julia (Nora Ephron, 2009) is a feel-good movie about two women with a passion for cooking. Secretary Julie Powell is looking for a challenge and decides to try out all the recipes from Julia Child’s old cookbook. Two films in one: a woman from New York who cooks her way through her crisis and Meryl Streep in a hilarious leading role as a television chef. The film is spoken in English and has Dutch subtitles.
What you see, is what you eat. At exactly the same time, you eat whatever is eaten in the film. Cinema Culinair’s culinary script guides the cook and the service.
Good movie + good food + great timing. The punch line is in the latter. An example. When Julia Child (Meryl Streep) eats a tongue meunière at 19 minutes and 32 seconds, we want our guests to taste exactly the same thing at the same moment. A minute earlier or later is the difference between a good and a fan-tastic experience. It’s about not only seeing and hearing the movie, but also tasting and feeling it.

Arrive on time and soak up the atmosphere. Not a cinema, not a restaurant, but an urban or classic ballroom with high ceilings, film screens, and long tables. First: buy a bottle of wine to enjoy with the film. Or something else delicious.

At the table, you’ll be told how it works. Seven carefully prepared dishes are served, perfectly timed with the film. There is a break halfway the movie. As soon as the movie starts, the first dishes appear in front of you, quickly and efficiently. Then it’s time to countdown…. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and taste. Together all at once.

You eat exactly the same food as the actors in the movie. Down to the second. This allows you to experience the movie with all your senses. It doesn’t get any more immersive than this. See, hear, smell, taste, and feel. It’s as if you were sitting at the table with the actors.
