In Le pot-au-feu (2023, Trần Anh Hùn; the film is also known as The Taste of Things), it’s simply impossible not to work up an appetite. Every scene exudes a love and mastery of classic French cuisine, and the film is both a romance and a cooking class rolled into one. We find ourselves in Dodin’s imposing country house, where he and his chef Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) prepare the most delicious dishes for friends. In the traditional kitchen without electricity or gas, turbot, vol-au-vent, pigeons, and veal loins are prepared in silence, all filmed like living paintings that make you long for a sultry French summer in the countryside.

Le Pot-au-Feu is truly an ode to French cuisine! This evening we serve a selection of authentic French dishes: traditional, flavorful and with a touch of nostalgia. So think French classic prepared with love and attention to detail – exactly as you see it in the movies. We were proud to serve this special experience earlier in the prestigious Tuschinski Theater at the Dutch premiere of the film. And now it is a joy to be able to share this wonderful film with everyone as a film & dinner event for an evening full of taste, film and magic. Our chef Anja is inspired by the rich French cuisine to create a unique culinary experience. So during the movie you will enjoy dishes that breathe passion and perfection. Bon appétit!
The film features roughly 23 dishes, but for health reasons we won’t be serving all of them. We’ve selected eight courses.
This culinary drama takes you to 19th-century France, where master chef Dodin and his partner and fellow chef Eugénie (played by Juliette Binoche) have been cooking and living together for twenty years. Their kitchen is all about patience, perfection, and a deep love for flavor and craftsmanship. Juliette Binoche, known for her role in Chocolat (2000), shines once again in a story centered on culinary passion. The film follows their shared dedication and emotional journey as they create dishes that are a feast for the eyes and the heart. Le Pot-au-Feu is a visually and emotionally rich ode to the art of cooking and love.

The culinary script of *Le Pot-au-Feu* at Cinema Culinair serves as the guiding principle for our chef and staff. Good film + good food + perfect timing—that’s what it’s all about. The essence? An example: when master chef Dodin serves his carefully prepared turbot fillet at 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 30 seconds, we want our guests to experience the same dish at exactly that moment. A fraction too early or too late makes the difference between good and phenomenal. This way, the film is not just seen or heard, but truly experienced.

Arrive on time and soak up the atmosphere. Not a cinema, not a restaurant, but an urban or classic ballroom with high ceilings, film screens, and long tables. First: buy a bottle of wine to enjoy with the film. Or something else delicious.

At the table, you’ll be told how it works. Seven carefully prepared dishes are served, perfectly timed with the film. There is a break halfway the movie. As soon as the movie starts, the first dishes appear in front of you, quickly and efficiently. Then it’s time to countdown…. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and taste. Together all at once.

You eat exactly the same food as the actors in the movie. Down to the second. This allows you to experience the movie with all your senses. It doesn’t get any more immersive than this. See, hear, smell, taste, and feel. It’s as if you were sitting at the table with the actors.
