Every scene exudes the love and craftsmanship for French classic cuisine, and the film is romance and cooking course in one. We are in Dodin's imposing mansion where he and his cook Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) prepare the most delicious dishes for friends. In the traditional kitchen without electricity and gas, turbot, vol-au-vent, pigeons and veal backs are silently prepared, all filmed like living paintings that make you long for a sweltering French summer in the country.
