On the edge of the city centre of Nijmegen is an impressive industrial complex: De Vasim. The building is part of the NYMA site, a vibrant area and breeding ground for creative entrepreneurs from all kinds of sectors. This makes the location unique and fits well with CINEMA CULINAIR.
Cinema Culinair takes you to the special Vasim in Nijmegen, an industrial complex that is part of the creative NYMA terrain. Built in 1928 as part of the NYMA artificial silk factory, this impressive building has been transformed over the years from a spinning mill for artificial silk to a place for cultural innovation and creativity. The Vasim, with its characteristic arched halls and industrial charm, offers the perfect ambiance for our film and dinner nights.
The Vasim started its life as part of the NYMA artificial silk factory and played an important role in the production of artificial silk for many years. In 1948, the first characteristic arched halls were built, partly thanks to Marshall Aid, to enable the production of viscose in large and high spaces. After the textile industry moved to Asia, the building was given a new purpose in 1985 as VliegAsen SInterMaatschappij, where fly ash was processed into raw materials for concrete. This industrial process caused a lot of nuisance at the time, and after persistent protests the factory closed in 2000.
Since 2002, De Vasim has started a new chapter as a cultural breeding ground, where artists and creative entrepreneurs have breathed new life into the building. Since then, the complex has grown into a place of innovation and culture, where events such as Cinema Culinair fit perfectly into the impressive and historical spaces.
Experience Cinema Culinair in De Vasim and discover how industrial heritage, creativity and culinary delights come together for an evening you will not soon forget!
